For Clan Honor:

By: Star Captain GreyMage

I had just passed my Trial of Entry into the clan. After a brief celebration for becoming a Star Captain, the festivities were soon over and the time to perform my duties was at hand. My first mission was to run recon patrols with Nova Colonel Qball in the outer rim near Clan Nova Cat territory. Qball was assigned our largest mech the Daishi while I was assigned my Timber Wolf. For the first few days of patrols became a fight to stave off the boredom. Early morning just before the dawn a faint reading came across the long range scans…

Captains Log:

Nova Colonel Qball and myself were patrolling the outer worlds near Clan Nova Cat space. Running active long-range scans. I picked up a faint energy signature. By cutting power to weapons and boosting radar the targeting computer identified the mechs as a Daishi and Timber Wolf class. I opened the broad range comm channel for a hail. The saKhan and a Nova Colonel from Clan Nova Cat were running training exercises. Qball initiated a challenge to the saKhan, which he and his wing readily accepted.

We throttled up to engage. I transferred power back from radar to main weapon systems. The saKhan went to passive sensors in the Daishi as we had figured he would. At approximately 600 meters out the NC Colonel came over a small rise in the lunar terrain. Initiating the combat I fired the ER Large Lasers and struck the Colonel full in the center torso. Giving me just enough time to acquire missile lock and release a flight. Qball maneuvered to the left and caught the Colonel with a massive Alpha Strike that rocked the mech's torso. The NC colonel returned fire on my mech removing large chunks of armor from the front and left torso. The saKhan opened up from 400 meters out catching my left and front torso again.

I was able to move down a small slope, which put me out of the gun sites of the saKhan giving me a split second to rip into the Colonel with pulse and heavy lasers fully charged. I saw the Colonel eject, as the damage was too severe for him to continue. The mech fell seconds later and the power plant went critical and exploded.

Qball advanced on the saKhan and both exchanged an initial volley. Qball dropped behind another rise and let weapons charge. The damage on my mech was critical so I went to passive radar. Throttled up and coming over the next small rise was able to catch the saKhan with a direct center Alpha Strike. I caught his attention he turned to fire and caught me full in the front. My auto eject sent me skyward as Valiant was reduced to molten slag. Qball moved to the left and torso rotated right. Releasing a laser strike followed by a well timed missile strike. The missiles caused the saKhan to fire a volley that missed. Qball took the extra few seconds to allow the weapons to fully charge and released an alpha into the saKhans center. From my perch on top of a crater rim I could see the saKhans pod eject from the crippled Daishi.

Later that night we wound up in a local pub called The Timber. The Colonel and I joined the locals in drink and conversation. During which came out that the Colonel and I had won a hard fought clan duel with the Nova Cats. Many a fine drink was tipped that night in celebration of the victory. The crop farmers who frequented the pub gave cheers and raised their mugs in salute to us.

Personal Log:

I returned to The Timber Pub tonight. The barkeep recognized me and gave me a mug of frothy honey mead on the house. Sitting in a shadowed corner of the place I overheard the tales of Qball and Greymage. The 2 enemies we had defeated a month prior had turned into a Nova Cat Lance of 15 mechs. It appears we have become legendary figures to the locals. I can only imagine that the Star Colonel would get a good chuckle from the thought. Perhaps the next time I go back we may have destroyed an entire Trinary.
